About Us!

           The small community of Riner is known as a rural area of Montgomery County, Virginia. Although a small community, the need for a rescue squad was apparent as neighbor, Christiansburg Rescue, answered many calls in the Riner area. With hard work, patience, and dedication from several special individuals, Riner Volunteer Rescue Squad became a reality as it opened up as a sub-station of Christiansburg Rescue Squad in May of 2007. Furnished with a new building, new ambulance, and a crash truck, all was needed to begin answering calls.

      In 2011, Riner Volunteer Rescue Squad broke it's ties with Christiansburg Rescue to become it's own independent squad. Shortly after, Riner was furnished with another ALS certified ambulance. More members were added to the squad to create a five call team rotation to serve through out the week. We currently have a 7 call team rotation that covers every day of the week.  We are still looking to expand our membership to create day-time teams.  Currently those are covered on a call-by-call bases. Riner also has several associate members who answer and respond to calls as well.  

     On September 1, 2020, after several renovations and a fresh coat of paint, Riner Volunteer Rescue Squad officially moved into our new station, which was previously occupied by the Riner Volunteer Fire Department. This move ensured our future and commitment to providing high quality services to our Riner friends and family.
